Historically, Bathinda (ਬਠਿੰਡਾ), is one of the oldest cities in Punjab, India which was named after the Bhati Rajput kings. It is 225km west of the Chandigarh city. Bathinda is famously known as the city of Lakes and was also termed as Tabar-e-Hind(or Tabarhindh), which means the Gateway to India. Razia Sultan who known as the first empress of India was imprisoned in the Qila Mubarak fort in Bathinda.
Bathinda once famously known for its two thermal power plants, is one of the biggest commercial city that comprises of large Mittal oil refinery, NFL (fertilizer plant), zoo and very historical Qila Mubarak fort. The region around Bathinda largely into Grapes’ growing area and it is one of the biggest places for food grains and cotton belts. It also comprises one of the largest railway junctions in India. Bathinda city also facilitated by a domestic airport. It is the leading city in education in the state of Punjab.
