About Patiala & its traditional Wedding Photography

The most well-known princely state of Punjab, Patiala with its rich legacy of art and architecture, is the most flamboyant city in Punjab state. Initially, the city was part of the Sirhind dynasty under the Mughal Sultanate, but after the battle between the Sikh and Mughal armies, Baba Ala Singh carved out an independent dynastic Patiala. In, 1763, Baba Ala Singh laid the foundation of Qila Mubarak, around the periphery of Qila Mubarak, the Patiala city was flourished. The descendants of Baba Ala Singh gave the city some of the finest infrastructure hosts royal palaces, luxury buildings, including the Moti Bagh and the Sheesh Mahal. Patiala’s most flamboyant ruler, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, said to be the first Indian to own an airplane. Famous for Patiala peg and royal indiscretions, this erstwhile state has in fact been culturally enriching, too. Through the most famous schools of music, the Patiala Gharana, it produced very well known celebrities like Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Ali Bux. Patiala is very well known for its rich heritage in architecture, local traditions, and famous for its local crafts like Juttis, Paradis, Nallas. Patiala is also considered to be the center of excellence in education with its one of the oldest education institutes, Govt. Mohindra College founded in 1870 by H.H. Maharaja Mohinder Singh. After independence, the part of Sheesh Mahal and Moti Bagh is developed as the National Institute of Sports, (NIS) and is said to be Asia’s biggest sports institute.

As Patiala is considered to be the center of traditions and customs of Punjab, the basic traditions and customs followed in wedding ceremonies are derived from North India style weddings. As part of the Punjab region, people here in Patiala follow customs and traditions of regular Punjabi weddings, like Tikka, Rokka, Mangni, Shagun, Sangeet & Jaago, viah. Birdes normally wear Kameez and Salwar or Lehnga Choli along with heavily embroidered dupatta covering her head. The outfit usually based on the Patiala Salwar Kameez style. Along with it, ideally, the bride wears heavy gold jewelry along with matching footwear, bangles are famously known as Chooda, a combination of dark red color and white holds great significance to the bride.
